Thailand’s tourism revenue expands

BANGKOK  Tourism Authority of Thailand says the country could earn more than THB2 trillion in tourism revenue in 2016.
Thailand’s National News Bureau quoted TAT deputy governor for international marketing, Juthaporn Rerngronasa, who said based on this year’s success in tourism, the THB2 trillion estimate was achievable.
She attributed this year’s success to the Discover Thainess campaign that invites local and foreign tourists to travel the country in search of its true identity.
The campaign was launched, last year, mainly through trade fair activities and online marketing operations worldwide.
inside no 5The campaign helped to draw 12.48 million tourists in the first five months, a growth of 25% over the same period, last year, and has generated THB592 billion in revenue.

Juthaporn noted that 65% of all tourists are from Asia and only 25% from Europe. A depreciation of the Ruble has caused a substantial drop in Russian tourists.
TAT estimates that 2016 revenue will reach THB2.33 trillion in international tourism revenue. Domestic tourism will push the total to THB3 trillion.
TAT is planning to hold road show events in Malaysia, Singapore, England, France, and China over the remainder of this year.
Mother’s Day celebration, 12 August, which is also the HM the Queen’s birthday will also generate travel within the country boosting the performance in the third quarter of the year.
