Orient Thai signs with Amadeus

BANGKOK  Low-cost airline, Orient Thai Airlines, has selected Amadeus as their first global distribution system (GDS) as it seeks to expand its business in the region through travel agencies.

It ensures Orient Thai can distribute fares, schedules and availability through the widest network of global travel agents.

The airline has outlined an ambitious plan to triple its fleet size to 60 within five years and transport 5 million passengers over the next three years.

It flies a mix of Boeing 737s, 767s and 747-400s to points in China.

New routes are in the pipeline to Singapore, Taipei, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

“Thailand has always been one of the top tourist destinations in Southeast Asia…we see strong potential for the country to attract even more travellers. We are growing as well, and as we look to expand our routes and carry more travellers to and from Thailand over the next few years,” said, Orient Thai Airlines general manager marketing, Peter Xiong.

Orient Thai joins the ranks of 478 other airlines in the Amadeus system. Over 70 low-cost and hybrid carriers are bookable through the GDS.

The airline currently operates routes between Bangkok and Nanjing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi’an, Nanning, Changsha, Nanchang and Hong Kong, and between Phuket and Nanning, Chengdu, Chongqing and Xi’an. The airline carried 610,000 passengers in 2014.

It formerly operated under the name One Two Go and at one time concentrated entirely on charter operations to China and the Middle East.

Orient Thai Airlines is headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, and flies out of Don Mueang International Airport.

It has a fleet of 22 aircraft, including 737s (nine aircraft), 767s (nine aircrafts) and 747s (four aircrafts).

The turnover in 2014 was THB4 billion and the airline carried 610,000 passengers.
