Beach bans snacking

BA RIA-VUNG TAU The People’s Committee of Vung Tau has announced it has banned beach snacking, effective Tuesday.

Tuoi Tre News reported the committee confirmed last Friday, that it had ordered all vendors and restaurant operators businesses to vacate beaches.

The committee prohibits all forms of catering at beaches and also discourages tourists from taking drinks and snacks to the beach. It claims beaches are covered with litter mainly caused by vendors and tourists who leave their garbage behind.

inside no 4Economic Division of Vung Tau City head, Nguyen Ngoc Truong, was quoted saying those who sell food at beaches are violating two laws, even without the ban. They are guilty of sidewalk encroachment and conducting business without a licence.

“These beaches are the tourism assets of Vung Tau, but that doesn’t mean everyone is free to eat there.”

Vung Tau is the tourist and commercial centre of Ba Ria-Vung Tau (an industrial province in Southeastern Vietnam).

Located about 100 km from Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau City is a popular getaway destination attracting Ho Chi Minh City residents who want to take a break at the beach.
