BANGKOK Thailand ranked the 10th country globally to feature the highest number of gold award-winning properties according to the Hotels.com Loved by Guests Awards 2017.

Released last week, the awards are based on Hotels.com’s analysis of more than 25 million guest reviews, with 2,500 hotels across 87 countries. Those taking home the top prize of a Loved by Guests Gold Award  have all achieved an average guest review rating of 4.7 or higher* (out of 5).

This year, Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai topped the list of cities with the most gold award-winning hotels in Thailand from a total of 42 properties across the country, up from 41 properties, last year, eligible for consideration.

Regionally, Hanoi, Siem Reap and Tokyo are the top-three destinations for prize-winning properties, while Bangkok and Chiang Mai ranked sixth and ninth place respectively.

All hotels from Thailand were named by guests as best** in seven categories – luxury, business, boutique, beach, family, spa, and new.

Hotels.com director regional marketing greater China, SEA and India for the Hotels.com brand, Jessica Chuang, said: “Thailand’s continuous outstanding performance in the Hotels.com Loved by Guests gold awards reflects the country’s success in offering hotel and hospitality selections of the highest quality worthy of great reviews from guests worldwide.”

The recipients of the gold awards in Thailand include giant chain hotels such as Mandarin Oriental, Siam Kempinski and The Peninsula. However, it was Pimalai Resort and Spa on Lanta Island that earned the highest score with a guest review rating at 4.9. Other boutique hotels that brought home gold included Ariyasomvilla, Sala Ayutthaya, and Rachamankha.
