Indian travel agents cannot keep working for free

11 Jun 2013  2038 | World Travel News

MONACO - Over two years ago Airlines were directed by the Kerala High Court and Karnataka High Court to give commission as a form of compensation to travel agents. The travel agents have been waiting ever since for the ‘zero commission’ airlines to come out with the quantum of commission.

The Supreme Court has put the travel agents under duress by disallowing them to charge a transaction fee for their work in selling airlines tickets. The Government of India has been dragging its feet, for over two years, without enforcing the courts’ decision. It has not directed the ‘zero commission’ airlines to implement the courts’ order and to finally decide on the quantum of commission payable to travel agents.

United Federation of Travel Agents' Associations (UFTAA) calls upon the authorities and the airlines involved to take immediate and necessary steps to find a solution to this impasse which has been causing harm to the livelihood of the Indian Travel Agents, their staff and families.
