This northern Vietnamese province and home to the World Heritage site, Halong Bay, will open tourism representative offices in Japan and South Korea later this year.
“The offices will provide information, organise tourism promotions, provide consultancy services for Vietnamese travel agencies as well as Japanese and Korean investors interested in our tourism industry,” a provincial official explained.
The offices are scheduled to open later this year.
Recently, Quang Ninh  province  and Japan’s International Culture Association WANOKAI worked together to spur tourism development.
The former deputy foreign minister of Japan, Hamada Kazuki, said the number of Japanese visitors to Vietnam rises was expanding fast.
The idea of internationally based representative tourism offices was raised a number of times in the past, but was not carried through due to a lack of budget.
Japan and South Korea are two of Vietnam’s largest tourist markets.
During January to June this year, South Korea ranked in second place supplying 385,870 visits, an increase of 4.3% over the same period last year. Meanwhile, Japan was in third place with 294,487 visits improving 1.9% from last year.
Quang Ninh province’s top attraction is Halong Bay, which is the most popular sightseeing destination in North Vietnam and was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 and the world’s New 7 Wonders of Nature in April 2012 by New Open World Corporation, an associate of the New 7 Wonders Foundation.
