BANGKOK - Best Western International has held a ceremony in Myanmar to celebrate the signing of its first ever hotel in the country’s capital, Nay Pyi Taw.
Local dignitaries, senior company officials, VIPs and local and international media joined together in Yangon on July 18, 2013, to mark the signing of the Best Western Premier The Grand At Nay Pyi Taw project, which is due to welcome its first guests in the second quarter of 2014.
The 205-room hotel will become one of the first internationally-branded hotels in the central city, which is the seat of Myanmar’s government and one of the world’s fastest-growing hotel markets.
“We are delighted to be here in Myanmar, putting pen to paper for the first ever Best Western hotel in Nay Pyi Taw,” said Glenn de Souza, Best Western’s Vice President of International Operations for Asia and the Middle East.
“Myanmar has made great strides in recent years, opening up to the international community and allowing a new generation of visitors to see all the wonders this magical country has to offer.
“Nay Pyi Taw, as the country’s modern capital, is at the very heart of this development. In hosting several major events, including this year’s Southeast Asian Games, the city is truly opening up to the world. I have no doubt that Nay Pyi Taw will experience a surge in business and leisure tourism in the coming years, and with the signing of this new hotel, Best Western is perfectly placed help the city grow,” Mr. de Souza added.
Following the signing ceremony, Mr. de Souza joined members of the hotel project team, officials from Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels & Tourism, and other guests of the owning company’s chairman, for a special dinner to celebrate the occasion.
The signing of the Best Western Premier The Grand At Nay Pyi Taw marks Best Western International’s second announcement in the country in recent months, following the signing of the Green Hill Hotel in Yangon earlier this month. This makes Best Western International one of the first international hotel companies to arrive in the capital since the country opened up to foreign investment.
