Cambodia reports strong October travel

BANGKOK, 19 December 2012: International arrivals to Cambodia bounced back in October with a growth of 20% after a below average performance in the third quarter.

Cambodia’s Statistics and Tourist Information Department, Ministry of Tourism, reported arrivals increased 24.8% to 290,959 during October. The percentage increase for 10 months lifted marginally from 23.6% at the end of September to 23.7%. From January to October Cambodia tallied 2,868,499 international tourists.

In October alone, arrivals from the top 10 markets posted growth, except for Australia in 10th place that dropped 2.2% (8,659) compared to October 2011.

Arrivals from Thailand, during October, jumped 116.6% to 22,595, lifting its ranking to 4th place. In September, the growth was only 4.7% .

Arrivals from Laos remained strong in October with 24,114 tourists, a surge of 91.3%. Arrivals from China were robust growing 48.4% with 30,892 visits, while Korea grew 18.7% and supplied 31,132 tourists.

Asia Pacific accounted for a 79% market share and posted a strong growth of 30.1% supplying 229,830 arrivals.

Europe grew by just 10.1% supplying 42,076 visitors. Other sub-regions posted single digit growth and were negative in western Europe (-1.2%), while eastern Europe showed a robust 35.2% growth with Russia the largest supplier (+42.5%, 6,847). The Americas (9.4%, 12,721) recorded a slight increase, 3.7% with 17,647 tourists, while the Middle East was the only region that posted a decline of 8.3% with 848 tourists.
