Low-cost option to Phits

Thai AirAsia will operate two daily flights from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Phitsanulok effective 30 November this year.

The airline’s CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, said the new flights will serve demand for both leisure and business travellers to this major town that stands at the edge of Thailand’s northern region.

“Phitsanulok’s location in the central or lower northern region makes it an ideal travel gateway for business travellers. We are taking this opportunity to strengthen our domestic connectivity, which has positive potential as an economic centre and tourism gateway for ,surrounding towns.”

Using a 180-seat Airbus A320, FD 3308 will depart Bangkok (Don Mueang) at 0655 and arrive Phitsanulok at 0750. The return flight, FD 3309, will ex-Phitsanulok at 0820 and land Bangkok at 0915.

The second flight, FD 3306, will depart Bangkok at 1740 and arrive at 1835, while the return flight, FD 3307, will depart Phitsanulok at 1905 and arrive at the capital 2000.

Phitsanulok airport is around 60 km from Sukhothai’s historical park, which is a world heritage site.

Travellers can also hire cars at the airport and drive to Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Loei, Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet all popular tourist destinations with historical attractions.

Tourism Authority of Thailand’s northern markets division director, Panadda Chanpanya, said the launch of AirAsia’s new route will have a positive impact on tourism for the region.

“Along with the airline’s connectivity to international destinations, more tourists from abroad will be able to access Phitsanulok and its nearby cities including Uttaradit, Phrae, Nan, Sukhothai and Kamphaeng Phet.”

To promote the new flight, the airline sells a one way fare at Bt390, inclusive of airport tax and fees.

The booking must be made by 20 October for travel 30 November to 5 August 2014.
