LAN Airlines has announced that it will increase the number of daily flights between Santiago and Montevideo, offering passengers three daily non-stop flights between the cities in keeping with its aim to strengthen and increase the number of connections between the region's destinations.
LAN is committed to developing tourism in the region, and Uruguay is a top tourism destination within South America. Uruguay's famous beaches, local cuisine and the richness of its culture make it a major tourist draw. The change will also provide Uruguayan passengers increased access to Chile, and a wider selection of Latin American tourist destinations -within the LAN network- including destinations such as Cuzco, Easter Island, Cartagena de Indias, and the Galapagos Islands in South America; more distant destinations such as Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in the United States; and Madrid and Frankfurt in Europe, to name but a few.
According to Francisco Chiari, General Manager of LATAM for Uruguay, "more than 40% of our passengers fly for pleasure, which is why it is crucial for us to strengthen connectivity within the region and between its individual countries, such as Uruguay." He added that "here at LAN we are constantly looking for opportunities to benefit our passengers, either by increasing the number of flights to destinations where we already have a presence or by adding new travel options."
