An Australian Federal Court has slapped Tiger Airways with a $100,000 fine for failing to unsubscribe customers from its mailing list despite requests to be removed. According to Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) deputy chairman Richard Bean, refusing to unsubscribe customers is not only stressful for consumers but against the law and damaging to the company’s business, News Limited reported. "This action is another reminder to businesses that that they should pay attention to what their customers are saying, test their email unsubscribe facilities regularly, and not simply set and forget them,” Mr Bean explained. A Tiger spokesperson said the company deeply regrets any inconvenience to customers who may have wished to unsubscribe, but assured the airline would make sure its opt-out function is effective. "Tiger has reviewed and re-designed our processes to ensure regulatory compliance and is committed to working with an independent consultant to assess and make improvements to all aspects of the electronic direct marketing process where appropriate,'' the spokesperson said. |
