A Boeing 777-300ER splayed with images from the soon-to-be released movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, rolled out of an Auckland hangar last weekend, and according to Air New Zealand chief executive Rob Fyfe, will “excite” passengers flying on its services between Auckland, Los Angeles and London.
Work on the aircraft commenced last week, and reportedly took six days and 400 man-hours to complete.
Characters seen on the exterior of the aircraft include the popular wizard, Gandalf and the movie’s lead hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.
As well as bringing the Middle-Earth journey to life, the plane is also expected to make a brief appearance at the movie’s premiere in Wellington on 28 November this year.
