Jetstar customers duped again

04 Dec 2012  2043 | Business & Trade Fairs

Jetstar has fallen victim to further online exploitation after emails containing fake itineraries and a harmful computer virus was distributed to customers.

The low-cost carrier advised customers on its Facebook page not to open any attachments within the emails.

The dodgy emails contain the subject line ‘Jetstar Flight Itinerary’, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Jetstar said it no longer sends PDF attachments as part of email itineraries, other than official taxation documents labelled ‘Tax Invoice’.

“Too bad if you were expecting a genuine email from Jetstar for changes made to an itinerary yesterday, like I did, so of course then when I received the spam this morning I tried to open it,” a Jetstar passenger said.

Fortunately the customer’s anti-virus software managed to block the intrusive virus.

One passenger warned Facebook visitors that the phony emails had the correct Jetstar layout and pictures.

This is the second time Jetstar customers have suffered a hoax after a prankster set up a fake Facebook page impersonating the low-cost carrier last month.
