Philippine Airlines considering new aircraft for expansion

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is said to be considering a purchase of 20 Boeing 777X jets, to assist the airline’s growth into the US and Europe, as well as challenge its domestic rival, Cebu Air.

The announcement comes less than a year after PAL’s owner San Miguel Corp sealed aircraft orders of up to AU$10 billion with Airbus, Chicago Tribune reported.

PAL president Ramon Ang said new purchases would “depend on the price”, however, confirmed the Boeing 777X was an option.

“We may buy 10 and, if it performs well, we’ll exercise an option for 10 more.”

According to reports, the airline is hoping to add 100 jets to its fleet over the next seven years.

Earlier this month, PAL announced an “aggressive” route expansion, that will include six new destinations.
