Two passengers have sustained minor injuries, according to officials, after a passenger plane carrying 52 people crash-landed in Indonesia.
The State-owned, Merpati Nusantara Airlines MA-60 aircraft was coming in to land at El Tari airport in Kupang city when the accident occurred and the aircraft ended up with its belly on the runway and engine jammed face down into the tarmac, The Indian Express reported.
A Transport Ministry spokesperson confirmed the plane was carrying 52 people on board and only two passengers experienced minor injuries caused from pieces of glass.
“They have left hospital and are fine now,” he said.
According to the spokesperson, damage suffered during the accident may have also possibly left the aircraft in an unrepairable state.
The Merpati Nusantara Airlines accident is the second airline crash for Indonesia in less than two months, after carrier Lion Air crashed into the sea in April this year.
