SINGAPORE – Singaporeans are travelling more, and their average spend on flight and hotel options has increased by at least five per cent this year, as announced by the region’s leading online travel agent ZUJI Singapore. The online travel booking site saw a 20 per cent and 15 per cent year-on-year (YOY) increase in travel to Europe, and Australia & New Zealand respectively, showing that Singaporeans are travelling further in 2013.
The research also eyed trends within Asia, noting that the number of travellers to Seoul has seen a 50 per cent boost, and the sum of Singaporeans travelling to Hokkaido has tripled YOY. Comparing favourite beach destinations, Bali triumphed over Phuket as the top sandy escape with a new competitor, the Maldives, on the radar. The once exquisite and luxurious honeymoon destination is now transforming into a popular getaway not just for couples, but also friends and families having seen bookings to Male triple YOY.
To stay relevant to consumers’ ever-changing travel behaviour and preference, ZUJI recently launched its WHERE? campaign, showcasing 31 consumer-choice holiday destinations with hot spots that include buzzing cities, cultural escapes, exotic islands and shopping havens across the region and span as far as the United States.
CEO of ZUJI Singapore, Chua Hui Wan explains, “Singaporeans’ travel consumption patterns are shifting beyond short-haul and common destinations. They are increasingly travel-savvy, adventurous and willing to spend on varied travel options venturing into new destinations. They are expanding their travel borders to include new and exciting regional and international locations such as Vietnam, Maldives, Rome and Canada. ZUJI’s WHERE? campaign encourages these new experiences by providing value offers for travellers to these 31 Singaporeans-new-favourite cities worldwide.”
