The revival of MBA (tourism) course has come in the form of a two year full-time Masters in Tourism Administration (MTA) in the Lucknow University (LU). The programme will be administered by the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS), LU. The faculty of arts will be responsible for academic purposes and awarding the degrees to the students.

"The city that has to its credit large repositories of cultural and architectural heritage is certainly not to be a missed tourist spot. By learning the tourism concepts and geography of various tourist destinations, there is a chance for a better tourism administration," said ITS director Manoj Dixit. The course is spread into four semesters with special emphasis to personality enhancement and organisational behaviour. To increase the database, the students in their first semester will have a separate subject as ?Tourism Products of India?. An additional advantage will be the foreign language that the students will learn during the course.

With tourism comes hospitality. Considering the same, there will be lessons on ?fundamentals of hospitality industry?. Other subjects that will be of interest to the students in the second semester will be ?travel agency management?, ?appreciating Indian culture and society?, ?international tourism products?, ?world geography?, and ?foreign exchange and travel insurance management?.

To impart the new courses, guest faculties and industrial experts will be sharing their first hand experiences with the students.

Besides, the MTA programme will also give exposure to air travel systems and global distribution systems of tourism industry. International trends and contemporary issues will also find a place in the syllabus. Students will also be given knowledge on the legal issues in tourism. Specialisation will be an added advantage for the students opting to do MTA from LU. Out of aviation management, cargo management, event management, tour operation and destination management, students can choose any one as specialised subject, in the third semester. "E-tourism with advanced research methods ? an important aspect in today?s modern world will also part of the course," said Dixit.
