Skyscanner travel trends reveal who is coming to Singapore for the F1

SINGAPORE -  Leading global travel search site Skyscanner has seen flight searches to Singapore soar as Formula 1 fans flock to the Lion City for this year’s Night Race.

Skyscanner compared searches made for flights to Singapore during 19-23 September compared with the previous week, 12-16 September. In pole position and showing the biggest increase in demand is Hong Kong with a huge 128% growth in flight searches to Singapore.

Following closely behind on the grid is Taiwan, which saw an increase of 80%, the second highest week-on-week increase. The remainder of the top five were from further afield with United Arab Emirates and Australia seeing searches double while Canada made no.5 with an increase of 26%.

Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Cambodia also saw flight searches to Singapore increase for the period of the F1, proving that demand for the Night Race is strong across Southeast Asia.

The US completed the top 10 with a 6% increase.

Overall, flight searches to Singapore for the F1 weekend are up 10% on the weekend of the event last year, comparing 20-24 Sep 2012 with 19-23 Sep 2013.

Skyscanner Singapore’s Marketing Manager Ira Noviani said: “With the exception of four countries in the top 10, the growth in demand for travel to Singapore for the weekend of the race has been driven by Asia which just goes to show how popular F1 now is in this part of the world.”

4. Australia +47%

5. Canada +26%

6. Thailand +17%

7. Indonesia +14%

8. Philippines +12%

9. Cambodia +6%

10. United States +6%
