It is the turn of Mangalore now to be on the fast track with a comprehensive tourism development being planned in the city.
The tourism department is expected a to receive proposal for a tourism-based development plan under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) method from a private Singapore-based consortium of companies which have the expertise in the same field. The consortium is expected to submit a proposal for tourism development at a cost of about of Rs 4,500 crore under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
A presentation about the project was given to the tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy on Thursday after the inauguration of the new head office of Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd. The popular company owned by the state government and started in 1980, will still have its MG road office for the sales purposes.
The proposal about Mangalore tourism development plan -- `Connectivity enabled integrated development for Mangalore city' -- was shown being aligned with the Mangalore City Vision-2025 plan. Janardhana Reddy said that there were other contenders but before the formal submission of the proposal before the government, the details of the project were shown for their perusal. "The PPP model will be implemented at a cost of about Rs 4,500 crore. We have asked them to submit a proposal to the Government,'' he said.
According to the proposal, a tram or ropeway facility will constructed between the tourist destinations in Mangalore region facilitating faster movement of traffic and will have 10 major stations. Besides, the project also aims to develop coastal line including a convention centre, Aquamarine park, water-based park, entertainment/theme parks, laser show, sound and light show among others.
