TMS creates a new dimension in tourism recruitment

Leading the way in technological advancement in the tourism industry recruitment sector, TMS Asia-Pacific has invested in the most up-to-date online applications, formed new business partnerships and will soon bring its TMS Academy to Australia; all in a bid to fight an emerging ?war for talent? according to CEO, Andrew Chan.

Visiting Sydney this week, Mr Chan said the company was ?very conscious to elevate what we do in HR recruitment?, citing reasons for the suitably large investments made toward creating free iPhone and iPad applications, launched today, adding to its already popular Facebook page.

?The idea behind this is that candidates with iPhones and iPads can easily search for jobs while they?re out and about, sitting at a coffee shop, train, bus etc? a spare five minutes and they can see all our latest jobs and offerings.

?Technology has always been important for us, and Gen Y is where the bulk of candidates will come from in future.?

?More to the point we are also the FIRST amongst our competitors to do this.?

Mr Chan said after a quiet 2009, clients were returning ?in droves? but the challenges now were to find suitable entry-level and middle-management candidates.

?The market has rebounded at a pace that has caught many off guard and they now find themselves heavily talent short as we enter the second half of 2010,? he said.

Claiming candidates who complete tourism-related courses are being poached by banks or other service-based industries, Mr Chan cited recent surveys conducted by TMS also showed those that were in the industry during the GFC?s trying times decided to pursue further studies, or have left the industry to travel or join other business sectors.

?This is worrying for us because if people leave [the industry], they are essentially our product,? Mr Chan said.

?Many employers have of late adopted a safety first mentality and being overly cautious with hiring decisions?

?But we are once again seeing panic as organisations once again begin to find themselves in an environment where an over abundance of available jobs has once again started to outstrip the supply of appropriate candidates.?

Mr Chan said TMS were working with various Universities and tourism schools to ensure graduates remain within the industry.
?This is not the time for complacency.  The sector needs to address this renewed challenge and implement progressive HR strategies designed to both retain employees and attract candidates if we are to overcome this emerging issue.?
