Hotels generally happy with holiday bookings

That?s according to the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association, which said that 70 percent of hotels surveyed reported they were sold out Saturday night of the July 4th weekend. That?s up from 40 percent last year.

Also, 75 percent of the respondents to its survey said their holiday weekend business was equal to or better than last year?s. And 67 percent said bookings for the rest of the summer were equal to or better than last year. Of course, that still leaves a third of respondents with summer bookings that are worse than last year.

The association says occupancy is beginning to creep up for the first time in a year and a half, and that the industry is beginning to stabilize.

?Our members reported strong occupancy for the holiday weekend, which once again proves that New York State still appeals to the summer leisure traveler,? said Jan Marie Chesterton, the association president.
