SINGAPORE- Located at 35 Robinson Road, Sofitel So Singapore was built in 1927 in the typical British colonial neo-classical style with its columns and large windows, with some simple art deco details. The heritage building hosted governement telecommunication offices until 1992 when it was sold to a private financing company. Listed as a heritage building today, the future So Sofitel property is due to retain its neo-classical facade and some of the existing building structures, while a newer five-storey wing is currently being constructed at the back.

The luxury hotel will feature 134 guestrooms including 23 suites. Every room's uniquely-designed theme representing modern Singapore while preserving the building's heritage, adds to the hotel's aim to cater to business and leisure travelers who seek the ultimate in luxury, culture and comfort, within arm's length.

However, what will make the uniqueness of the property is the presence of fashion iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld – head of his own brand but also of the haute couture house Chanel. The talented German is also photographer and artist.

"Having Karl Lagerfeld as the 'Signature Designer' for the distinctive Sofitel So Singapore was an obvious choice to us, allowing us to pay homage to the country's symbolic heritage building with an iconic design collaboration," commented Bobby Hiranandani, Managing Director of Royal Group Holdings., the owner of the property. "We are confident that this unprecedented partnership will galvanize the success of the boutique luxury hotel and offer guests a remarkable hospitality experience in true Sofitel style."

Karl Lagerfeld has been commissioned by Sofitel to design the emblem, which will appear on a range of exclusive objects available for clients during their stay. It has turned for the So Sofitel to become a tradition to engage famed designers to work on its properties. Christian Lacroix designed uniforms at the So Sofitel Bangkok while Kenzo Takada provided design direction for the Sofitel So Mauritius, Sofitel So Singapore is the third addition globally to Sofitel So's expanding portfolio, while other hotels are currently under way in Mumbai, Rio and Sydney.
