Ministry gives nod to tourism promotion plan

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh has approved a national tourism promotion programme for 2010 under which Vietnamese destinations and products will be promoted on the domestic and international media.

A programme called "Viet Nam _ Your Destination" targeted at both domestic and international tourists will be broadcast on VTV4.

There will also be an advertising campaign on the US-based CNN channel, the third such campaign after ones in 2007 and last year.

The ministry will commission television programmes on cultural and historical monuments and well-known landscapes in not only Viet Nam but also Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar to develop them as a common destination.

It will also develop caravan tours through Viet Nam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.

It will organise tourism trade fairs and exhibitions and help the tourism industry attend foreign fairs to promote the country.

The tourism programme envisages having familiarisation trips for tour operators in Europe, Australia, the Mideast, the Far East, Cuba, and ASEAN member countries, and for the media in the biggest markets like Russia, the UK, China, and the US.
