Tourism officials report more visitors

A multitude of tourists braved the heat to get a taste of the Wild West Thursday at Dodge City's Boot Hill Museum. And even more tourists will visit as the summer heats up and Dodge City Days approach.
In fact, tourism in Dodge City is up close to 10 percent from last year, said Jan Stevens, director of the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Boot Hill Museum director Lara Brehm said the number of visitors has increased this season, compared to last year.
"I can tell you it's definitely up," Brehm said.  "If I were to venture a guess, we'll be up maybe three to four percent, but at this point there's not final numbers here."
Of course, there is no way for officials to know the exact number of an increase in tourist traffic because the season is only halfway through.
