BANGKOK - “We are creating the most sensational development that Thailand has ever seen that will change the axis of activity in Bangkok. It will be the most compelling, must-see destination of Thailand drawing visitors from around the world and from around Thailand. It will be at the centre of a grand-scale plan to revitalize Bangkok’s world renown Chao Phraya River as a global destination”.

The statement comes from CEO of Siam Piwat Co. Ltd., Mrs. Chadatip Chutrakul when unveiling her company’s newest project IconSiam. Stretching over 20 acres between the Millenium Hilton and the Peninsula Hotel Bangkok on the Thonburi side of the river, IconSiam is an ambitious US$ 1.54 billion development which will ultimately comprise a shopping mall, residences and condominiums in two towers as well as attractions and a river park.

"The announcement of such a huge project shows are confident into Thailand, my country. The development of IconSiam will give pride to any Thai as we want to show the beauty, the creativity and the dynamism of our nation”, she added.

The project comes at a time of revitalization of the Chao Praya River which involves local and national authorities as well as private partners. The task is to turn the River into Bangkok renewed centre of life, a role that the river used to have until the seventies before business and entertainment activities moved increasingly into the Sukhumvit area. The city of Bangkok is now planning to create the longest riverside boardwalk in Bangkok while IconSiam will provide a central plaza and park of 10,000 sq.m. which will turn the area into the new centre of grand national celebrations and events.

IconSiam will also turn into a new magnet for visitors. Not only due to the massive shopping mall –another one in the capital- but due to attractions regrouped under “Seven Wonders at IconSiam”. The investment of US$ 300 million will comprise Southeast Asia’s longest, on-land multi-media water and fire feature of over 400 meters, a museum of Thailand’s treasures and shows among other future attractions.

But also Mrs. Chutrakul wants to turn shopping into a new experience. All the brands represented in the mall will create “Iconic Stores" designed by each brand owner to represent their unique heritage and essence… Opening due in 2017!
