BANGKOK, 30 July 2014: ONYX Hospitality Group has appointed Douglas Martell as executive vice president, chief operating officer.
Prior to joining ONYX, Martell’s professional experience included a 13-year stint with IHG where he was vice president of operations – South West Asia.
With a career spanning more than 25 years, Martell brings with him a wealth of operational experience, especially from within the AsiaPacific region.

Commenting on his new role, he said: “I am excited to be joining ONYX at a time when the group is expanding into new markets and territories. ONYX is a leading hotel management company with a strong reputation in the industry; I look forward to using my expertise to ensure the continued efficient management of the 37 properties currently in our portfolio and the 15 pipeline properties that will launch in the next three years.”
The Chief Operating Officer position has been introduced in order to provide strategic support for existing properties and also to enforce the group’s infrastructure for future growth.
Martell will oversee group wide operations in North Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.
ONYX brands Amari, OZO and Saffron are all poised for growth in the next three years, with properties earmarked in China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean. Existing Amari properties in Bangkok, Samui, Pattaya and Phuket will also benefit from a significant investment over the next five years to upgrade and improve the product.
