BANGKOK : The Tourism Authority of Thailand hosted Bangkok-based members of the international media, as well as travel bloggers, to what it called an Amazing Thailand Road Caravan with a difference.
The media was given vintage vehicles for the trip that covered around 300 km to and from Kanchanaburi province.
TAT deputy governor for marketing communications, Sugree Sithivanich said: “We wanted to show the world that Thailand is safe and more than ready to welcome visitors from all over the world.”
“Also, we would like to exemplify that a different mode of transport can convert a once well-travelled route into an amazingly impressive one. And a roadtrip around some of the kingdom’s attractions using vintage vehicles seemed a wonderful way to do this.”
Hosted, 1 to 2 August, 12 media representatives joined a two-day/one-night trip to Kanchanaburi province, a couple of hours by car, west of Bangkok.
During the trip, visits were made to historical sites from World War II including the Death Railway, Krasae Cave and the “Hell Fire Pass Memorial Museum,” that tells the story of the most notorious section of the Death Railway built by the Japanese military using Allied Prisoners of War and local slave labour.
The road trip also stopped by Thong Pha Phum district, famous for its soft adventure including rafting, trekking and ATV riding.
The caravan was just one of TAT’s many advertising and promotional activities using online and offline channels to keep travellers up to date and confident about visiting the nation.
