MALAYSIAN tourists have been urged not to travel to the Philippines for the time being following Monday’s tragedy where eight tourists were slain in a hostage drama.
Although not many Malaysians visit Manila, they should still avoid travelling to the country for now, Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association president Paul Paw was quoted as saying in Sin Chew Daily.
However, he had not heard of tours being cancelled.
Rolando Mendoza, a disgruntled former policeman, hijacked a busload of Hong Kong tourists in Manila’s tourist district in a desperate bid to get his job back. Eight people were killed in the siege.
Nanyang Siang Pau reported that the 61 Chinese independent schools needed RM60mil a year to help run the schools.
The daily quoted Dong Zong president Dr Yap Sin Tian as saying there were 63,800 students from these schools and they were mostly financially supported by the boards of directors and corporate sector.
