HO CHI MINH CITY Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism should be fully operational by the end of the month.
According to local news reports, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued a directive that will establish the department within weeks.
According to the directive, the department will be separated from the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially on 16 October.
inside no 4It will then become an agency under the municipal People’s Committee undertaking activities related to the management of tourism, such as the assessment of applications for international travel business licenses and the evaluation of the rankings for accommodation establishments.
The department will work with relevant departments and sectors to create measures to ensure security for tourists, and promote environmental protection efforts at the city’s tourist sites.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of the country’s leading tourism centres accounting for 60% of all tourists.
The city had a separate tourism department in 1993 before it was merged into the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2008.
It is the first city in Vietnam to remove management of tourism from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
