Phu Qouc next site for casinos

PHU QUOC Vietnam will consider casinos on the southern island of Phu Quoc following a proposal by local authorities.
Local media reported Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved in principle the development of tourism projects that could include casino components on Phu Quoc Island, which is under the administration of Kien Giang province.
Under the scheme, investors who want to operate gaming facilities on the island must have a capital of at least USD4 billion.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with the provincial authorities and relevant state agencies to work out the details for the establishment of such projects in accordance with regulations. There will be stringent regulations governing resorts that want to include a casino.
Inside no.3Once the guidelines have been set, the ministry will need to submit a complete report on casino and related issues to the Prime Minister for consideration that could lead to the government issuing a decree opening the island to the casino business, the report said.
Phu Quoc Island is located off the western coast of the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang close to Cambodia and Thailand, with an area of 589.23 sq km and a population of 96,940 people.
In 2013, Phu Quoc welcomed 94,000 foreign visitors out of its total 416,000 arrivals.
By 2020, Phu Quoc Island will become a special administrative-economic zone, when it should gross USD771 million in revenue from hospitality services. The island should welcome between 2 to 3 million tourists annually by then; 40% of them foreigners.
Phu Quoc allows foreign tourists to visit visa-free for a period of up to 30 days.
