Carlson expands in China

SHANGHAI Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group announced at the China Hotel Investment Conference, Thursday, it plans to triple its hotels to over 50 in China over the next four years. “We have a 20-year history in China and increasing our footprint in the country is an integral part of our growth strategy in Asia Pacific,” said Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Asia Pacific president, Thorsten Kirschke. “In addition to the 50 hotels we plan to have in operation by 2019, we are moving forward aggressively to expand our pipeline in China.” Carlson Rezidor has strong representation in key markets and secondary cities in China, including 14 hotels currently in operation. Carlson Rezidor plans to increase its presence in China in top-tier cities, strengthen its focus on development opportunities in emerging markets and introduce two new brands, Quorvus Collection, a curated set of luxury hotels and Radisson Red, an upscale lifestyle select brand that appeals to the millennial minded traveller. Radisson Red provides guests a personalised stay experience and offers owners lower construction and operating costs than traditional full-service hotels due to a multi-functional approach to design and efficient space-planning. With Radisson Red, the group is well positioned to capture the Chinese millennial traveller aged 25 to 34, which will make up more than a third of Chinese tourists by 2019. Carlson Rezidor signed the first hotel for the brand in late 2014 — Radisson Red Shenyang Hunnan, which is scheduled to open in 2016. In addition, Carlson Rezidor will introduce the Park Inn by Radisson brand to China, with the signing of the 200-room Park Inn by Radisson Libo in the Guizhou province. The hotel is located at the entrance of Xiqikong National Park, close to the Daqikong karst site, which is part of the famous South China Karst UNESCO World Heritage site. Park Inn by Radisson Libo will be a newly constructed hotel and is owned by Libo Scenic Investment Co Ltd.
