LANGAWI  Langkawi Development Authority will host the 4th Langkawi International Laksa Carnival (LILAC) 29 to 31 May at Laman Padi, Pulau Langkawi.
The “foodie” carnival will have a theme this year of “Sweet, Sour and Savoury”, to celebrate the variety of authentic laksa dishes as well as traditional desserts offered from different states in Malaysia and Asia.
LILAC 2015 is credited with being the only gastronomic event that celebrates the different types of Laksa available in Malaysia and Asia.
On the marketing front, LILAC’s objectives are in line with the island’s iconic events initiative under the Langkawi Tourism Blueprint.
PrintThe Blueprint was endorsed and launched by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak 30 November 2012 and represents a milestone to position Langkawi on the world map as one of the top 10 holiday island destinations focusing on eco-tourism.
The island’s tourism authorities forecast it will welcome 3 million tourists and gain tourism related revenue MYR3.8 billion this year.
Apart from showcasing the variety of laksa dishes, LILAC 2015 is a carnival that promotes the diversity and harmony of Malaysia’s culture to tourists who are visiting the island.
LADA initiates a variety of events and festivals to boost Langkawi’s tourism industry.
This year carnival will be enlivened by four celebrity chefs from the famous cooking television programmes such as, Chef Farah Quinn from Indonesia, Chef Joe of MasterCard Malaysia, Chef Sherson Lian as well as Farouk Hussain, comedian and participant of Malaysia’s Celebrity MasterChef. A special appearance of Upin & Ipin, the famous Malaysian cartoon characters by Les’ Copaque Production and performance by Caliph Buskers are also the major highlights during the three-day carnival.
For this year, LILAC will offer various types of local and international Laksa including rice noodles from Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, China, Thailand and Indonesia.
Visitors also have the opportunity to participate in various competitions organised with prizes worth more than MYR50,000.00. The event should attract around 30,000 people this year, up 7% over the previous year’s 28,000 attendees.
