Philippines tourism has continued its momentum despite the travel advisories. Philippines tourism rose as tourists ignores travel advisories and continue to visit the country. Foreign tourist arrivals for this year till November 8 has reached 2.56 million, 17 per cent more than last year for same period. Philippines tourism is confident to breach 3 million tourists mark by the end of the year.
This seemed impossible after the Manila Bus Hostage Crisis which killed 10 tourists from Hong Kong. Furious by the attack Hong Kong and China issued travel advisory for Philippines and tourists flow decreased, but only for short period. Philippines tourism regained the lost ground and continued to attract more tourists. United States became the major contributor to Philippines tourism industry with 679,406 tourists. South Korea were second at 525,564, followed by Japanese at 331,156 and Chinese at 229,989.
Recently Philippines tourism suffered another blow when six nations issued travel advisory citing terror attack fears for Philippines. It also followed with travel advisory from Japan over kidnapping and robberies. Philippines is protesting these travel advisories however DoT remains confident that advisories are not going to affect tourist arrivals.
