The 7th United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) International Meeting on Silk Road Tourism was held from 18 to 20 June 2015, at Xi’an China.
One of the focuses of the meeting was to discuss the outlook for tourism development along the Silk Road.
The 1st Tourism Ministerial Meeting of Countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt, brought together ministers from 40 countries including Europe, Asia and the Middle East to discuss key issues facing tourism development along the Silk Road economic belt.
The meeting focused on visa facilitation, transportation and connectivity, multi-destination product development, marketing and branding, capacity building and research cooperation.
Jointly organized by UNWTO, China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, the meeting gathered senior officials and experts from the fields of tourism, heritage management, marketing and development.
An ancient imperial capital and eastern departure point of the Silk Road, Xi’an has long been an important crossroads for people from through China, Central Asia and the Middle East, and thus a hub of diverse ethnic identities and religious beliefs. As such, Xi’an is a promising hub for both inbound and outbound tourism.
