Can Tho focuses on cultural heritage

CAN THO Can Tho, a Mekong Delta commercial and tourism hub, will allocate a USD26 million budget to preserve and promote local cultural heritage in the province from 2016 to 2020.
The city’s People’s Committee chairman, Le Hung Dung, confirmed the city would spend USD26 million to preserve, promote and manage local historical and cultural sites in the city.
A priority will be given to protecting local culture, including the Cai Rang floating market culture and traditional music such as Can Tho’s Don Ca Tai Tu (amateur singing) and Ho Song Hau (Ho singing on the Hau River).
There will also be a focus on preserving antique houses, traditional trade villages, festivals and antique item collections.

The Mekong Delta is in southwest Vietnam where the Mekong River empties into the South China Sea through an extensive network of waterways.
The region includes 13 provinces or municipalities: Can Tho; An Giang; Bac Lieu; Ben Tre; Ca Mau; Dong Thap; Hau Giang; kien Giang; Long An; Soc Trang; Tien Giang; Tra Vinh; and Vinh Long.
