SINGAPORE - Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (“Vietjet”) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Company Limited (MUL), a member of Japan’s leading finance group Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), paving the way for both companies to collaborate on future business opportunities.
Japan’s Prime Minister, Mr. Shinzo Abe witnessed the signing of the deal during the official visit of His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to Tokyo.
The MOU supports Vietjet’s leasing and acquisition of three brand new A321 Airbus aircraft worth US$347 million, which is part of a contract signed between Vietjet and Airbus to purchase and lease a total of 107 aircraft in the coming years.
Vietjet will receive 10 to 12 new aircraft every year and has so far taken delivery of eight Airbus A321s and A320s.
Vietjet has recorded an impressive growth since it launched its operations in late 2011. The airline currently operates a fleet of 27 A321 and A320 aircraft across 33 routes domestically and internationally, and plans to add four more aircraft by the end of 2015. During the recent Paris Air Show, Vietjet also ordered six additional A321 aircraft for delivery in 2017.
