A club of 30 travel companies, mostly in central Vietnam who cater to Thai travelers, made debut in the central city of Danang on December 28 to promote cooperation for better serving visitors from the neighboring country. The key mandate of the club is to strengthen cooperation to improve services, prevent price undercutting, and boost tourism promotion targeting Thai visitors to the country.

The members will contribute funds to promotion programs, Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the club, said at a conference to announce the club establishment.Dung said the member companies wanted to have a common voice against unfair competition and to better services for Thai travelers who often travel to the country via border gates in the central region, such as Cau Treo, Cha Lo, Lao Bao and Nam Can.

“We’ve set the minimum prices for three popular overland tours designed for Thais in the central region. The common price frame will take effect on January 1, 2011,” he said.An increasing number of Thais have been traveling overland to central Vietnam in recent years. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) expected more than 100,000 Thai travelers to travel to the country via the central region’s border gates this year.
