Korea popular with tourists

Korea has encountered a surge in popularity in recent months with spiking visitor numbers.South Korea emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations amongst visitors from neighbouring Asian countries such as Japan and China, according to the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO).“If the current trend continues the number of foreign tourists will likely exceed 8.8 million by the end of the year, up 12.5 percent from last year’s 7.82 million,” a KTO spokesperson said.

During 2010, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the Visit Korea Committee and other state-run tourism promotion agencies, as well as municipal administrations built on Korea’s international profile, creating jobs and attracting foreign visitors to the nation’s shores.Korea plans to establish itself as a world shopping hotspot as well as offering incentives for foreign patients, travelling to receive specialist medical treatment and other healthcare-related services.The original government target of 8.5 million visitors in 2010 was recently increased to 8.8 million.
