Sentosa tops family choices

BANGKOK  Five hotels in Thailand figured in the top 25 list of the Best Hotels for Families in Asia as part of the 2016 TripAvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards, but Singapore’s Sentosa Island topped the chart.

Released last week, the winners of Travellers’ Choice™ Awards for Families Hotels were based on reviews and opinions posted by visitors to the popular review site.

Award winners were determined by using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews from travellers on TripAdvisor gathered over a year with emphasis placed on reviews marked as a family stay.

TripAdvisor does not explain how it monitors quality of reviews.

TripAdvisor marketing officer chief, Barbara Messing, said the Travellers’ Choice award-winners make it easier for parents to find that perfect hotel for their next family trip.

In Asia, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Sentosa Island in Singapore topped the list.

Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya in Thailand followed in second place.

Four other hotels in Thailand were recognised: JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Mai Khao (eighth); Centara Karon Resort Phuket, Karon (16th); The Chava Resort, Choeng Thale, Phuket (19th; and Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club, Mai Khao (23rd).
