Floods keep tourists away from Gold Coast

06 Jan 2011  2038 | World Travel News

A tourism executive says reports about Queensland's flood disaster are keeping interstate visitors away from the Gold Coast.Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter says the city is thankful it has been spared the inundation suffered elsewhere but he expects continued wet weather has significantly reduced the number of day trippers during the holiday period.Mr Winter says perceptions about the flood situation are also having an effect on interstate bookings.

"The reports interstate are saying very clearly the whole state is under water," he said."There are people who have been cancelling quite significantly right across the board because they think that the Gold Coast is flooded out."We're working very hard to change this perception, however while the media reports in that manner, it is going to be an issue for us."
