Tourism boost for Vietnam

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates international visits to Vietnam in December reached 449,570, increasing by 19.0% over the same period last year.Total arrivals in 2010 reached 5,049,855 representing a 34.8% growth, up 19% on the previous year, according to VNAT’s provisional data posted on its website, 6 January, and sourced from the government statistics office.
Updated last week, the data indicates 449,570 visits were registered in December through all modes of transport – land, air and sea an increase of 19% over the same month in 2009. The bulk of arrivals 365,070 passed through the two main aviation gateways Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Thailand’s outbound market supplied 222,839 visits and represented the eighth strongest market improving by an impressive 39%. China led the field with 905, 360 visits, up 74%, followed by South Korea, Japan, USA, Taiwan and Australia.Neighbouring Cambodia, in seventh place, supplied 254,553 visits up 15%. All of the top markets are the Asia/Pacific region with the exception of USA and France.
