Vietnam faces HR shortage

HANOI Vietnam tourism industry will need around 870,000 new workers by 2020 to keep up with anticipated growth.

Vietnam Net Bridge media claimed tourism’s annual growth rate would be in the region of 7% between 2016 and 2020.

Today, there are 156 training facilities, with 15,000 personnel graduating into the tourism workplace, but the industry needs 40,000 workers to stay ahead of the curve.

inside no 3Experts have advised the industry to establish an international standard tourism academy, or tourism university, in Vietnam to train skilled workers.

Identifying the challenge, earlier this year, the government-approved Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) established a tourism training association to encourage training facilities as well to take on board tourism studies.

The training association brings together universities, colleges, vocational schools, research agencies, businesses and organisations specialising in tourism in order to expand training capacities in the industry.

During January to July, the country attracted 5.52 million international travellers increasing 24.0% during the same period last year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
