TOKYO TripAdvisor has appointed Tomoe Makino as country manager, Japan.
Prior to joining TripAdvisor, Makino served as senior growth director for Japan at Twitter. In his role, he successfully led the growth of the company’s Japanese user base to 35 million monthly active users.
He had also served as partnerships director before this, where he worked with domestic partners to use Twitter’s real-time news capabilities.
Makino has also held senior roles at Google in new business development, content partnerships, as well as YouTube sales and operations.
He played an integral role in the localisation and launch of Google Maps in Japan, as well as launch of YouTube Japan with strategic content partners.
“It is a big pleasure for me to take on this challenge and to be a part of the TripAdvisor team,” said Tomoe Makino, TripAdvisor’s Country Manager, Japan.
“In Japan, TripAdvisor currently has a strong position in inbound travel and I have confidence that the brand can become a leading local service for all things travel as well – so that Japanese users always come to TripAdvisor first for all their travel needs, even when planning and booking small day trips in and around the country.”
