Vat Phou Festival will be held from February 14 to 18

The Public Works and Transport Service of Champassak province is speeding up the construction of a new shortcut road No 14 (A) access to Vat Phou Champassak to complete basically for the upcoming celebration of the 10th anniversary of listing Vat Phou Champassak as a UNESCO world heritage site.

The annual festival of the Khmer-styled stone Vat Phou temple in Champassak province, will be held from 14 to 18 February.The road No 14 is a new road which links Khagnaeng village, Phonthong district, to Vat Phou Champassak.Visitors can set out from Khayaeng village to Vat Phou Champassak via this road, said Deputy Head of the Overland and River Transport Service, Mr. Basy Phonkeo.

He added that under this project, this road would be finished in the middle of this year. But we have to finish it basically to facilitate the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Vat Phou Champassak.Vat Phou Champassak is the second world heritage site of Laos after Luang Prabang, northern Laos.

Under the project with an investment of USD20 million, Road No. 14, 31 km long and 9 m wide, will be asphalted and runs over 11 new concrete bridges.This road links Pakse to Phonthong district, Champassak province, and on to Vangtao-Chongmek border checkpoint.Now the asphalting is completed on 11 km. The paving will go on for 20 Km more.
