Laos hosts tourism fair

VIENTIANE Laos will organise an event to promote tourism in Vientiane province, 10 to 16 December, in Thoulakhom district.

Lao News Agency quoted Vientiane provincial governor, Bounsone Phetlavan, saying the festival would promote tourist sites, culture, the livelihood of ethnic minorities in the central province.

The government and private tour operators from Vientiane capital and the provinces of Vientiane, Bolikhamsai, Khammouane, Xaisomboun and Savannakhet will participate in the event.

The one-week event will feature a trade fair, parades, traditional performances, a Lao food festival, singing contests, boat races, a Lao traditional fashion show and sports competitions.

Around 3,000 visitors are expected to attend the festival, the report said.

Tourist arrivals to Laos reached 4.6 million in 2015 and are projected to surpass 6 million by 2020.
