SALAVAN Salavan province is asking for funds to develop natural tourism sites and help guesthouses and hotels improve services ahead of Visit Laos Year 2018.
Lao New Agency quoted the province’s Information, Culture and Tourism Division head, Somchay Ounchit, saying provincial authorities would focus on improving access at natural tourist sites such as waterfalls.
It will also support guesthouses, hotels and restaurants to improve their facilities, through training and funding.
“We require funds to spend on the development of tourist sites and assist guesthouses, hotels and restaurants to improve their services.”
Currently, the province has 91 tourist sites, including 49 natural sites, 36 cultural sites, and six archeological sites. There are 44 guesthouses, six hotels and 47 restaurants, the report said.
Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has recently called on all tourism agencies to urgently prepare activities for inclusion in Visit Laos Year 2018 calendar.
“A timetable of monthly events in every province needs to be compiled urgently to show visitors the special features they can enjoy during 2018,” said tourism minister, Bosengkham Vongdara.
Provincial authorities were asked to seek advice from relevant ministry department to brainstorm ideas to make the Visit Laos Year a success.
Laos last held a Visit Laos Year in 1999 focusing on the country’s culture, traditions, ethnic lifestyles, and historical and natural attractions.
Located in the south of the country, Salavan province borders Savannakhet province to the north, Vietnam to the east, Xekong province to the southeast, Champasak province to the south and Thailand to the west.
