QUANG NAM Quang Nam’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will focus on community-based tourism as it adds more  travel content in the Vietnamese province to attract international visitors.

Local media quoted the department director, Dinh Hai, saying a sustainable tourism model would help to preserve the cultural identity of the province and highlight the importance of heritage sites.

Over the past few years, the province has created several community-based tourism products that focus on the daily lives and stories of local communities.

The most successful products include tours to Tra Que herb village in Hoi An’s Cam Ha commune, Dhroong and Bhoong villages in Dong Giang rural district, Vina house space architecture complex in Dien Ban rural district, Phu Ninh lake eco-tourism, homestay experience in My Son, and night tours of Cu Lao Cham island.

Several tourism companies also offer cooking classes, where tourists learn how to prepare and cook authentic Hoi An food under the guidance of local chefs.

Night tours to Cu Lao Cham island are now available from Hoi An. The tours also offer special art performances, folk games and camp-fire activities at the beach, with accommodation options ranging from homestay with local families to tents pitched by the beach.

The director suggested tourism products need to be continually reviewed to ensure they present traditional values to visitors.
