Crafts gather in Hue

THUA THIEN-HUE The 7th Traditional Crafts Festival is scheduled to take place in the ancient imperial city of Hue, 28 April to 2 May.

The People’s Committee of Hue chairman, Nguyen Van Thanh, told local media that the festival is a major cultural and economic event, playing a significant role in supporting retail sales in the city.

“It also honours traditional crafts and aims to improve business, partnerships and cooperation in all areas, especially tourism.”

As many as 13 groups producing handicrafts have registered for the event.

The festival feature products from traditional craft villages in and around Hue, but there are some handicrafts from foreign countries. Exhibitions on art and royal antiques are the main highlight.

The key focus during the festival is on the ceremony and parade to honour the traditional trades of Vietnam and pay respect to generations of craftsmen.

More than 470,000 tourists, including over 175,000 foreigners, visited heritage sites in Hue Imperial City during the first two months of 2017.

This year, the province targets 3.3 to 3.5 million tourists, of which foreign visitors account for 40% to 45%.
