Vietnam’s March tourism positive

HANOI Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 1,005,821 international visitors in March representing an increase of 21.1% over the same month last year.

China was the top supply market with 297,915 visits improving 39.2%. Other top performers were South Korea, Japan, Russia and the United States.

Thailand in ninth place generated 24,371 visits up 4.5% over the same month last year.

Neighbouring Cambodia slipped off the top 10 source markets posting 15,314 visits, down 16.8%, while Laos recorded 7,386 visits down 36.9%.

All of the country’s top markets are in the Asia/Pacific region with the exception of Russia (fourth), the US (fifth), France (eighth) and the United Kingdom (10th).

The bulk of arrivals in March (812,594) passed through the two main aviation gateways Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

For January to March, the country welcomed 3,212,480 international travellers increasing 29.0% over the same period last year.

VNAT updated its data on its website, late last week, sourced from the government statistics office.

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has recently issued a code of conduct for international and local tourists, tour operators and locals at tourism spots.

The etiquette guidebook consists of two chapters with 12 articles, aimed at showing travel agents how to be service-minded and travellers how to behave.

The code of conduct includes rules that tourists should obey such as standing in line and respecting local customs and culture.

In January, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism also released a code of conduct for domestic and foreign tourists, in an effort to improve the reputation of the city.
