BANGKOK Good news for Thai travellers as Taiwan decides to extend visa-free visits for Thai passport holders for another year until the end of July 2018.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of China (Taiwan), the visa exemption that was offered to nationals of Thailand and Brunei will now be extended to 31 July, 2018.
It was due to expire 31 July this year.
The visa-free privilege allows Thai and Brunei passport holders to stay in Taiwan for up to 30 days.
Since its introduction on 1 August, last year, the numbers of visitors from Thailand and Brunei have increased by 57.26% and 52%. In the first two months of this year alone, the number of Thai visitors jumped by 91.83%, the ministry said.
With limited instances of visa overstay, illegal employment, and criminal offenses by visitors from the two countries, it was decided to extend the trial programme by another year, it added.
